Race instructions

Location

The 10km race will start promptly at 10am on Sunday 16 June 2024 at Wargrave Recreation Ground, off Victoria Road, RG10 8BG.

Race number & timing chip

Race numbers and timing chips are to be collected on the day of the race from the Registration tent.

 

Please complete medical details and emergency contact details on the reverse of your event number.

Schedule

8.30am - Registration opens

9.15am - Kids Fun Run starts

9.45am - 10Km registration closes

10am - 10Km race starts

11.30am - 10km course closes and 10km race awards presentation

Parking

If you have paid for VIP parking

Please head straight to Wargrave Recreation Ground.

When you arrive, you will need to turn up Recreation Road (do not try to go up East View Road) which will lead you into the car parking area. Please then follow the instructions of the car parking marshals. 

To approach the Recreation Ground please take Blakes Road (or Tag Lane), off the A4. This avoids a lot of traffic having to pass through the village.

All other parking

Parking is available at the The Piggott Secondary School.

The school is approximately 25-30 mins walk from the Recreation ground, or much less if used as a warm up jog (recommended option!). If parking here, please leave plenty of time to get to the start.

Please note that The Piggott Secondary School does not accept any responsibility for any loss or damage to the car while it is left in the car park.

Please do not park on the course or surrounding areas as this will cause disruption for runners and local residents.

Course map

The Kids Fun Run is 3 laps of the Wargrave Recreation Ground with marshals around the field to oversee the runners.

The 10km course map can be found here. The start and finish are at Wargrave Recreation Ground and a lap of the field is required on both the outward and homeward legs. All kilometre points will be marked on the course.

The 10km course has been officially measured and is certified by the Association of Course Measures, the course measurement certificate can be found here.

Please keep to the left and obey marshal instructions at all times, even if it means a temporary stop to your running. Vehicular traffic will not be stopped on all roads so please exercise EXTREME CAUTION. If you need to withdraw from the race – please contact the nearest marshal.

N.B. The course will only be fully marshalled for 1.5hrs from the start of the race and will be unmarshalled from 11.30am.

Water stations

There will be three official water stations at approximately 1.5km, 4.5km and 8.5kms.

Personal belongings

There will be a gazebo at the start/finish area which will NOT be supervised but you are welcome to leave any belongings of little value you wish to during the run.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR/YOUR CHILD’S PHOTO AVAILABLE ON A PUBLICLY AVAILABLE WEBSITE – PLEASE LET US KNOW PRIOR TO THE RACE.

Results

10km results will be available here immediately as you cross the line.

 

There are no official results or records of times for the Kids Fun Run – there will be a clock at the start/finish should you wish to use this to record your child’s time.

Trophies

There will be trophies awarded to the following in the 10km race:

  • 1st/2nd/3rd Male & Female

  • 1st V40 Male & Female

  • 1st V50 Male & Female

  • 1st V60 Male & Female

  • 1st V70 Male & Female

  • 1st Boy & Girl (15-17)

  • 1st RG10 Male & Female

If an age group winner is an overall podium winner they will receive the podium trophy, and the second person in age category will then win the age group trophy. #sharethelove

Goodies

Medals, fruit, some small treats, and water will be waiting for you at the finish line.

The 1st Wargrave Guides will be serving hot food, snacks and drinks at the finish line available to purchase by cash or card - perfect for pre/post event fuelling!

Need a pre/post race massage?

Rebel Recovery and tgpt_fitness will be at the start/finish line this weekend

to help with any pre and post race niggles with an effective sports massage 

treatment (all they ask for is a donation). If you think you’d like more than a 10 minute slot, maybe prebook an appointment with either of them the following week?

15% off treatments at Barber Crew in June

Barber Crew has kindly offered all runners (10K & Kids Fun Run) a 15% discount on any treatment until the end of June.

 

Simply bring your race number into any of their studios (Wokingham, Wargrave or Twyford).

Rules

  • NO HEADPHONES to be worn during this event, there will be enough of an atmosphere that you won’t need any further distraction and you WILL BE DISQUALIFIED IF YOU ARE CAUGHT WEARING THEM. This is in accordance with UK Rules of Competition “the wearing of headphones, or similar devices (other than those medically prescribed), is not permitted in races on any single carriageway road that is not wholly closed to traffic.”

  • No pushchairs

  • No dogs to accompany runners on the course please, unless an assistance or guide dog 🙂

  • No dogs allowed on the recreation ground

  • Smile for the camera

  • This event is governed by England Athletics rules and is a licenced event: 2024 – 26531.
